Mercury is an essential component of fluorescent tube lamps (energy saving lamps, fluorescent tubes and compacts). Duralamp undertakes to use technologies that reduce the quantity of mercury – which is already very low - as much as possible.

However, in the event of lamp breakage, it is a good idea to take the following precautions:
  • Open the windows and leave the room for at least a quarter of an hour;
  • Collect the remains of the lamp using a sheet of paper or cardboard: place everything in a sealeable container.
  • In the event that the powder containing mercury should come into contact with fabrics or clothing, you should get rid of the same, sealing the container as described above.
  • Do not use a broom or vacuum cleaner.
  • Do not throw anything into the unsorted waste, down the drain or into open areas.
  • The sealed material should be sent to a special collection point run by your city council or other organization charged with disposal and/or recycling.
At the end of their life, the aforementioned lamps should also be taken to these special collection points, or ‘exchanged’ at the retailer’s store for a new lamp, where permitted by the legislation in your country.
